Coming out from jail, Lucas has decided to change his life and behave like a good citizen. But when he is taken hostage in a bank by a hare-brained robber, no cops can believe he is not part of the action.
Francis Veber's French comedy benefits enormously from the chemistry between Gérard Depardieu and Pierre Richard, whose comic dynamic elevates fairly familiar material. The mistaken-identity chase premise is well-executed but conventional, and the visual style is functional rather than distinctive. The emotional undercurrent involving the little girl adds warmth but the ending feels somewhat tidy. A solid crowd-pleaser carried chiefly by its two leads.
