Alice follows a white rabbit down a rabbit-hole into a whimsical Wonderland, where she meets characters like the delightful Cheshire Cat, the clumsy White Knight, a rude caterpillar, and the hot-tempered Queen of Hearts and can grow ten feet tall or shrink to three inches. But will she ever be able to return home?
This 1999 TV movie adaptation of Lewis Carroll's classic is a competent but unremarkable retelling. The all-star cast (Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Kingsley, Christopher Lloyd) delivers serviceable performances but the ensemble feel is uneven. The cinematography and production design are adequate for a TV production but lack the visual imagination the source material demands. As yet another adaptation of a frequently told story, it brings little new to the table conceptually. The ending follows the expected beats without any particular resonance. It serves as a watchable family fantasy but doesn't distinguish itself among the many Alice adaptations.
