The Little Prince (2015)

Quartile rating: 8/10 · 1 rating

Based on the best-seller book 'The Little Prince', the movie tells the story of a little girl that lives with resignation in a world where efficiency and work are the only dogmas. Everything will change when accidentally she discovers her neighbor that will tell her about the story of the Little Prince that he once met.

The Quartile Take

The 2015 animated film earns high marks for its inspired structural choice of embedding the classic Little Prince story within a modern framing narrative about a little girl and her eccentric aviator neighbor. The cinematography is genuinely exceptional, blending gorgeous CGI for the present-day world with beautifully tactile stop-motion paper animation for the Prince's tale — a visually distinctive contrast that elevates the film. The plot is thoughtful and emotionally resonant, honoring Saint-Exupéry's philosophy while adding a clever meta-layer about growing up and remembering wonder. Novelty is high because this dual-world approach is truly singular — no adaptation of this story has looked or felt quite like it. Acting is competent and warm but not especially memorable. The ending is somewhat uneven; the film's invented third-act adventure diverges from the source in ways that divided audiences, feeling slightly rushed and tonally uncertain compared to the elegance of what preceded it.
