Catwoman (2004)

Quartile rating: 4.5/10 · 1 rating

Liquidated after discovering a corporate conspiracy, mild-mannered graphic artist Patience Phillips washes up on an island, where she's resurrected and endowed with the prowess of a cat — and she's eager to use her new skills... as a vigilante. Before you can say "cat and mouse", handsome gumshoe Tom Lone is on her tail, fascinated by both of her personas.

The Quartile Take

Catwoman (2004) is widely regarded as one of the weakest superhero films ever made. The plot is thin and derivative, recycling a basic corporate conspiracy framework with no meaningful depth or surprise. The acting is mostly serviceable at best — Halle Berry tries but is let down by the script, while Sharon Stone's villain is cartoonishly flat. The cinematography is choppy and relies on frenetic editing that obscures action rather than enhancing it, a product of its era's worst MTV-style excess. Novelty is low — despite a female-led superhero premise that had potential, the execution is entirely by-the-numbers with nothing distinctive in voice or craft. The ending is particularly weak, resolving the conflict in an unsatisfying and forgettable way with little emotional payoff.
