Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll: He has burned through eight of his nine lives, leaving him with only one life left. Puss sets out on an epic journey to find the mythical Last Wish and restore his nine lives.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a visually stunning animated film that distinguishes itself through its bold, spider-verse-inspired animation style blending 3D rendering with 2D expressionism, earning a well-above-average Cinematography score. Its Novelty is genuinely high — rare for a sequel — because its distinctive visual language, surprisingly mature themes around mortality and ego, and the genuinely menacing villain Death set it apart from virtually every other animated franchise entry. The Plot is solid and emotionally resonant but follows a fairly conventional quest structure, landing above average rather than exceptional. Voice acting is strong across the board but not transcendent. The Ending is satisfying and emotionally coherent without being particularly surprising or daring — a warm but safe resolution to a well-executed adventure.
