Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Mike and Dave are young, adventurous, fun-loving brothers who tend to get out of control at family gatherings. When their sister Jeanie reveals her Hawaiian wedding plans, the rest of the Stangles insist that the brothers bring respectable dates. After placing an ad on Craigslist, the siblings decide to pick Tatiana and Alice, two charming and seemingly normal women. Once they arrive on the island, however, Mike and Dave realize that their companions are ready to get wild and party.

The Quartile Take

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is a broadly comedic romp that leans heavily on a simple role-reversal premise — the 'wild' women outpacing the supposedly rowdy brothers. The plot is formulaic and predictable, hitting standard rom-com beats without much surprise. The cast, particularly Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, and Adam DeVine, bring genuine energy and comedic timing that elevates material that doesn't always deserve it. Cinematography is functional and sunny, benefiting from Hawaii's natural beauty but without any distinctive visual flair. The concept, while mildly amusing, is derivative of countless 'out-of-control wedding' comedies and doesn't do enough to distinguish itself. The ending wraps up neatly and predictably, offering little emotional payoff beyond the expected pairings.
