Holidays (2016)

Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating

An anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time by challenging our folklore, traditions and assumptions.

The Quartile Take

Holidays is a horror anthology with uneven results across its segments. The concept of subverting beloved holidays has appeal, but execution is inconsistent — some segments (Father's Day, Halloween) show genuine craft while others feel underdeveloped or predictable. Acting varies wildly by segment. Cinematography has some standout moments but is similarly uneven. The anthology format means no cohesive ending, and the final segments leave a weak overall impression. Novelty gets a slight bump for the holiday-framing conceit and the involvement of multiple distinctive directors, though the anthology horror format itself is well-worn.
