A queen sends the powerful and feared sorceress Gray Alys to the ghostly wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power, where she and her guide, the drifter Boyce, must outwit and outfight both man and demon.
In the Lost Lands adapts George R.R. Martin's short story with a grim, macabre tone and an interesting sorceress-drifter dynamic, but the plot feels thin and episodic, struggling to sustain a feature-length narrative from its source material. Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista bring committed performances that elevate the material, though the script limits their depth. Cinematography captures a suitably dreary, desolate atmosphere but doesn't distinguish itself visually beyond competent genre work. The fantasy-western hybrid concept has some novelty in its execution and somber register, though the execution is uneven. The ending resolves without much impact, feeling abrupt and underdeveloped for the journey it concludes.
