Despicable Me 3 is a largely by-the-numbers sequel that struggles to justify its existence. The twin brother subplot feels contrived and the Balthazar Bratt villain concept, while amusing in concept, isn't developed with enough wit to sustain the film. The Minions prison subplot feels like padding. Voice performances are competent and charming as expected from the established cast. The animation is polished and colorful but doesn't push the franchise visually. Novelty is low as it recycles familiar franchise beats without the fresh energy of the original. The ending resolves multiple threads hastily and without much emotional payoff.
