Get Him to the Greek (2010)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Pinnacle records has the perfect plan to get their sinking company back on track: a comeback concert in LA featuring Aldous Snow, a fading rockstar who has dropped off the radar in recent years. Record company intern Aaron Green is faced with the monumental task of bringing his idol, out of control rock star Aldous Snow, back to LA for his comeback show.

The Quartile Take

Get Him to the Greek is a raucous comedy built on the odd-couple dynamic between Russell Brand's flamboyant rock star Aldous Snow and Jonah Hill's anxious intern. Brand is genuinely committed and charismatic, elevating the material, and the film has some memorably wild set-pieces (the Vegas sequence, the furry walls). However, the plot is formulaic road-trip-comedy fare with predictable beats, and the cinematography is functional at best — nothing visually distinctive. The ending feels rushed and overly sentimental given the anarchic tone that precedes it. Novelty gets a mild bump for Brand's singular creation of Aldous Snow and the music parody element, but it's still largely a by-the-numbers studio comedy.
