The Quartile Take

Goon: Last of the Enforcers is a serviceable but diminished follow-up to the cult original. The plot retreads familiar underdog-hockey territory with the injured-veteran-comeback arc feeling formulaic and predictable. The cast, including Seann William Scott and Jay Baruchel (who also directs), brings enough charm and camaraderie to keep things watchable, but the performances don't reach the emotional authenticity of the first film. Cinematography is workmanlike and uninspired for a sports comedy. As a sequel, it lacks the freshness and discovery that made the original stand out — it hits the same beats without adding much new. The ending delivers a reasonable emotional payoff consistent with the tone, but it's nothing surprising.
