The acting is serviceable but uneven, lacking the anarchic energy that made the original memorable. Cinematography is a modest step up from the low-budget aesthetic of its predecessor, with some competent action staging. However, the novelty score suffers significantly — remaking a beloved cult film without meaningfully subverting or expanding on its premise makes this feel derivative; it trades the original's gleeful transgression for a more sanitized (despite the unrated tag) mainstream superhero formula.
