The Quartile Take

Gotti (2018) is a largely by-the-numbers mob biopic that covers familiar gangster territory without distinguishing itself from countless predecessors. The plot hits expected beats of rise, power, and fall without meaningful depth or insight. John Travolta's performance as Gotti is committed but uneven, and the supporting cast is underwhelming. Cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable, lacking the visual style of better crime films. The film offers little novelty in a genre crowded with superior entries, recycling familiar tropes without a fresh angle. The ending, like the rest of the film, feels rushed and unsatisfying, failing to deliver emotional or dramatic payoff. The film was widely panned by critics and is considered one of the more forgettable entries in the mob biopic genre.
