A psychic doctor, John Clancy, works with an FBI special agent in search of a serial killer.
Solace follows a well-worn FBI-psychic procedural template with a few intriguing twists — most notably the antagonist also being psychic — but never fully capitalizes on its more original ideas. The plot mechanics are serviceable but riddled with conveniences and predictable beats typical of mid-tier genre thrillers. Anthony Hopkins brings his usual commanding gravitas and elevates otherwise thin material, while Colin Farrell and Jeffrey Dean Morgan provide competent support. Cinematography is polished and occasionally atmospheric but unremarkable for the genre. The novelty angle of dueling psychics had promise but the execution is derivative of superior films like Mindhunter or even the Se7en lineage it clearly aspires to join. The ending attempts a philosophical payoff around mercy killing that feels undercooked and rushed, failing to deliver the emotional or intellectual punch the premise warranted.
