Boyka: Undisputed IV (2016)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

In the fourth installment of the fighting franchise, Boyka is shooting for the big leagues when an accidental death in the ring makes him question everything he stands for. When he finds out the wife of the man he accidentally killed is in trouble, Boyka offers to fight in a series of impossible battles to free her from a life of servitude.

The Quartile Take

Boyka: Undisputed IV is a competent and entertaining action entry that benefits enormously from Scott Adkins' committed, charismatic performance as the franchise's standout character. The plot adds a moral dimension — guilt over an accidental death driving Boyka to fight for another's freedom — that elevates it slightly above pure tournament fare, though the structure remains formulaic. The fight choreography is genuinely impressive and well-shot, with crisp staging and kinetic energy that fans of martial arts cinema will appreciate. However, as the fourth installment in a franchise, its conception is inherently derivative, limiting its Novelty score. The ending delivers satisfying resolution consistent with the genre's expectations without surprising or transcending them.
