Balto and the other sled dogs are feeling dejected because the mail that used to be delivered by dogsled is now being delivered by airplanes. But when a mail plane crashes in the mountains, the dogs come to the rescue.
Balto III is a direct-to-video third entry in the franchise that largely recycles familiar themes of animal heroism and technological change with minimal distinction. The plot is serviceable but formulaic for DTV family animation, the voice acting is competent but unremarkable, and the animation quality is noticeably reduced from the original theatrical film. There is little novelty in its conception, and the ending resolves predictably. It sits comfortably in average territory across all categories for its genre and format.
