Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Three years after Jurassic World was destroyed, Isla Nublar now sits abandoned. When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.

The Quartile Take

Fallen Kingdom is a formulaic sequel that struggles to justify its existence beyond spectacle. The plot pivots awkwardly from a rescue mission to a haunted-house thriller, and neither half is fully developed. Characters make inexplicably poor decisions throughout, and the genetic engineering subplot feels recycled from earlier entries. Acting is serviceable but no one is given meaningful material to work with. Cinematography has some strong moments — particularly the volcanic eruption sequence and the gothic mansion interiors courtesy of J.A. Bayona — elevating it slightly above average. Novelty is low; it recycles themes from the franchise without adding a genuinely fresh perspective. The ending, which releases dinosaurs into the world, is a dramatic choice that feels both rushed and unearned, setting up a sequel rather than providing satisfying closure.
