Valencia, Spain. On a rainy morning, six armed men in disguise assault a bank. But what seemed like an easy heist, quickly goes wrong with nothing unfolding as planned, and mistrust quickly builds between the two leaders of the gang.
To Steal from a Thief is a competent Spanish heist thriller that delivers solid tension and a reasonably engaging plot involving political corruption layered onto a bank robbery gone wrong. The acting is serviceable with decent ensemble work, and the cinematography is polished but unremarkable. Where the film struggles is in novelty — it follows well-worn heist genre conventions (distrust among thieves, double-crosses, hostage negotiations) without bringing a particularly distinctive voice or fresh angle. The ending provides adequate closure with a satisfying enough twist but doesn't elevate the material beyond genre expectations. A respectable mid-tier thriller that genre fans will enjoy without finding anything truly memorable.
