A boy haunted by visions of a parallel world aids its disillusioned guardian in preventing the destruction of the nexus of universes known as the Dark Tower.
The Dark Tower adaptation fails to capture the sprawling, mythic complexity of Stephen King's beloved series, reducing it to a generic action-fantasy chase film. The plot is rushed and shallow, condensing an eight-book saga into a forgettable 95 minutes with poor world-building. Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are capable actors but are let down by thin characterization and weak dialogue. Cinematography is serviceable but unremarkable, with some decent desert and New York location work. Novelty suffers because the execution feels generic and formulaic despite rich source material. The ending is anticlimactic and unsatisfying, failing to deliver meaningful resolution or emotional payoff.
