Upon learning that their mother has been lying to them for years about their allegedly deceased father, two fraternal twin brothers hit the road in order to find him.
Father Figures is a formulaic road-trip comedy that doesn't do much to distinguish itself from similar buddy/family-discovery films. The premise of twins searching for their unknown father has some potential but the script meanders and relies on predictable comedic beats and situational humor. Ed Helms and Owen Wilson are watchable enough together, bringing modest charm to their roles, but neither is stretched beyond their established personas. The cinematography is functional at best, serviceable for the genre but unremarkable. The novelty is low — the road-trip-to-find-a-parent setup is well-trodden territory and the film doesn't subvert or elevate the formula in any meaningful way. The ending wraps up too neatly and sentimentally given the chaotic tone of the rest of the film, feeling unearned rather than satisfying.
