Ex-UFC fighter Dalton takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Road House (2024) is a serviceable remake that updates the 1989 cult classic with MMA flavor and Florida Keys scenery. The plot is formulaic and predictable — small-town corruption, reluctant hero, escalating threats — offering little surprise. Jake Gyllenhaal brings charisma and physicality to Dalton, elevating the acting above the material, and Conor McGregor's unhinged villain turn is entertainingly committed if not technically refined. Cinematography is competent and sun-drenched, fitting the Keys setting but not particularly inventive. As a remake of a beloved cult film, novelty is inherently limited; it recycles the core premise without meaningfully reimagining it. The ending delivers the expected crowd-pleasing resolution without much tension or ambiguity. A fun, breezy action film that doesn't overstay its welcome but rarely surprises.
