Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating
When a band of brutal gangsters led by a crooked property developer make a play to take over the city, Master Ip is forced to take a stand.
Ip Man 3 delivers solid Wing Chun action sequences and an emotionally resonant subplot involving Ip Man's wife, but the plot is formulaic even by franchise standards — a generic gangster threat padded with a Mike Tyson cameo that feels more like spectacle than substance. Acting is competent with Donnie Yen reliable in the lead role, though supporting characters are thinly written. Cinematography is polished and professional but not particularly distinctive. Novelty is low as the film largely retreads the series' established beats without adding meaningful new dimensions to the legend. The ending, focusing on the personal rather than the epic, is one of the more genuinely touching moments of the trilogy.
