A rare mutation has occurred within the vampire community - The Reaper. A vampire so consumed with an insatiable bloodlust that they prey on vampires as well as humans, transforming victims who are unlucky enough to survive into Reapers themselves. Blade is asked by the Vampire Nation for his help in preventing a nightmare plague that would wipe out both humans and vampires.
Blade II is a competent and entertaining action-horror sequel elevated significantly by Guillermo del Toro's direction, which brings a kinetic visual energy and creature design flair above the original. The Reapers are genuinely inventive monster creations with their grotesque jaw-splitting design. However, the plot is fairly formulaic — uneasy alliance, betrayal twist, final boss — and the acting ranges from charismatic (Snipes' stoic cool) to wooden among the supporting cast. The ending deflates somewhat with a rushed emotional resolution that doesn't fully land. Novelty is solid due to del Toro's unmistakable gothic-horror sensibility giving the film a distinct visual identity despite familiar story beats.
