X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

When a cure is found to treat mutations, lines are drawn amongst the X-Men—led by Professor Charles Xavier—and the Brotherhood, a band of powerful mutants organised under Xavier's former ally, Magneto.

The Quartile Take

X-Men: The Last Stand is widely regarded as a disappointing entry in the franchise. The plot squanders two major comic storylines (the Dark Phoenix Saga and the Mutant Cure arc) by cramming them together and handling both superficially, with key character deaths feeling unearned. The acting is serviceable from veterans like McKellen and Stewart, but many characters are underserved by the script. Cinematography is competent blockbuster fare without much visual distinction under Brett Ratner's direction. Novelty is low — it retreads familiar X-Men territory without adding meaningful new ideas, and feels like a formulaic studio-mandated conclusion. The ending is messy, with rushed resolutions and mid/post-credits teases that feel like damage control rather than earned payoff.
