The Quartile Take

I Am Dragon is a Russian fantasy romance that retells the classic dragon-kidnaps-princess fairy tale with a moody, Twilight-esque romantic twist. The plot is engaging enough in its Beauty and the Beast parallel but relies heavily on familiar genre beats without pushing them far. Acting is competent with decent chemistry between the leads, though characterization remains thin. Cinematography has some appealing visual moments and a decent fairy-tale aesthetic but is constrained by its budget. The film has modest novelty as a Russian-language entry into the paranormal romance genre with folklore roots, giving it a slightly distinctive cultural flavor. The ending leans into bittersweet tragedy but feels rushed and emotionally undercooked, failing to fully pay off the romantic tension built throughout.
