When her boyfriend dumps Emily, a spontaneous woman in her 30s, she persuades her ultra-cautious mom to accompany her on a vacation to Ecuador. When these two very different women are trapped on this wild journey, their bond as mother and daughter is tested and strengthened while they attempt to navigate the jungle and escape.
Snatched is a broadly formulaic comedy that leans heavily on fish-out-of-water and mismatched-duo tropes without offering much that's fresh or surprising. Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn have sporadic chemistry and both bring some charm, but the material rarely rises to meet them. The cinematography is functional at best, with little visual imagination applied to the Ecuadorian setting. The plot is predictable and episodic, stringing together set pieces without meaningful escalation or stakes. The ending resolves neatly but without any real payoff or emotional resonance beyond the expected mother-daughter reconciliation. Novelty is low — this is a well-worn buddy-comedy road trip structure with nothing distinctive enough to set it apart.
