A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.
The 2011 Conan remake is a largely by-the-numbers sword-and-sorcery action film that fails to distinguish itself from its 1982 predecessor or the broader genre. The plot is a generic revenge-and-rescue narrative with little originality or depth, leaning heavily on clichés explicitly noted in its keywords. Jason Momoa brings physicality to the role but the acting across the board is uneven, with villain Khalar Zym coming across as cartoonish. Cinematography has some decent production value and action staging, earning a modest above-average mark. Novelty scores very low as this is a straightforward remake that adds nothing new to the source material or the genre. The ending resolves predictably with no dramatic weight or surprise.
