It's a Boy Girl Thing (2006)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

A visit to a natural history museum proves catastrophic for two high school rivals, an overachiever and a jock, when an ancient Aztec statue casts a spell that causes them to switch bodies and see exactly what it's like to walk in the other's shoes.

The Quartile Take

It's a Boy Girl Thing is a competent but formulaic body-swap teen romcom that hits every expected beat — rivals forced into each other's lives, gradual understanding, romantic resolution — without meaningfully distinguishing itself from Freaky Friday or similar predecessors. The plot is predictable and the Aztec curse device is perfunctory. Acting is decent for the genre, with Samaire Armstrong and Kevin Zegers showing reasonable chemistry and comic timing. Cinematography is standard early-2000s teen comedy fare with no notable visual ambition. Novelty is low given the well-worn body-swap template, offering little fresh beyond a gender-swap angle already explored elsewhere. The ending resolves neatly and satisfyingly for the genre, which is what the audience expects.
