Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

Victoria is a thirty-something divorced lawyer who's struggling to raise her two daughters. She is canny and cynical but on the verge of an emotional breakdown. At a friend's wedding she reconnects with Vincent, an old friend, and Sam, an old client. Her life is about to take a new turn.

The Quartile Take

In Bed with Victoria is a middling French comedy-drama that doesn't distinguish itself much within its genre. The plot is serviceable but familiar — a harried professional woman juggling work and romance — and the screenplay struggles to balance its comedic and dramatic tones convincingly. Virginie Efira is charming and carries the film with genuine energy, elevating material that might otherwise feel thin. Cinematography is unremarkable, functional but without visual ambition. The film treads well-worn territory of the modern French romcom-drama without offering a particularly fresh angle on single motherhood or female desire. The ending resolves things without much surprise or earned emotional weight.
