After Megamind, a highly intelligent alien supervillain, defeats his long-time nemesis Metro Man, Megamind creates a new hero to fight, but must act to save the city when his "creation" becomes an even worse villain than he was.
Megamind earns its highest mark in Novelty for genuinely subverting superhero genre conventions — the villain winning early and then grappling with purposelessness is a clever, self-aware premise that distinguishes it from typical animated fare. The voice cast (Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, David Cross) delivers solid comedic timing and charm, though no performance is truly exceptional. The animation is vibrant and energetic but not visually groundbreaking for its era. The plot is well-constructed with good comedic beats and a satisfying character arc for Megamind, though the third-act pivot to Hal/Titan as the main antagonist feels somewhat rushed. The ending resolves cleanly and warmly but without particular surprise or ambition beyond what the setup promises.
