The Quartile Take

Life As We Know It is a fairly formulaic romcom that leans heavily on the well-worn opposites-attract trope, elevated slightly by the emotional weight of sudden parenthood through tragedy. The plot follows predictable beats — reluctant co-parents bicker, bond, and fall in love — without much surprise. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel deliver competent, likable performances that keep the film watchable, though neither is given much depth to work with. Cinematography is serviceable and unremarkable, typical of mid-budget studio romcoms of the era. The concept of grieving godparents raising a child has genuine emotional potential, but the film largely squanders it in favor of light comedy. The ending resolves as expected, with a satisfying if predictable romantic conclusion that fits the genre.
