Seoul Station (2016)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 1 rating

In this animated prequel to "Train to Busan," a group of survivors deals with a zombie pandemic that unleashes itself in downtown Seoul.

The Quartile Take

Seoul Station earns strong marks for novelty as a rare adult animated zombie horror film and a prequel that meaningfully expands its live-action counterpart's world with a grittier, more socially critical lens — homelessness, class neglect, and institutional indifference are woven into the horror effectively. The animation style is distinctive and unsettling. The plot is serviceable but thinner than Train to Busan, relying on familiar zombie chase mechanics without the same emotional payoff. Voice acting is competent but unremarkable. Cinematography — while stylized in its animation — is functional rather than inspired. The ending is the weakest link: a dark twist that feels rushed and undercooked, more shocking for shock's sake than genuinely resonant.
