Goku and friends must stop a band of space pirates from consuming fruit from the Tree of Might before it's destructive powers drain Earth's energy.
Tree of Might is a competent but largely formulaic DBZ movie that recycles the series' standard beat-em-up structure with a Goku doppelgänger (Turles) as the villain — a conceit that feels convenient rather than inspired. The animation is solid for its era with some impressive energy-blast sequences and dynamic fight choreography, but nothing that transcends the TV series. The plot is thin even by DBZ movie standards: space pirates plant a world-draining tree, heroes fight, Goku wins with a Spirit Bomb. Voice acting (in both Japanese and English dubs) is serviceable but unremarkable. The Turles mirror concept had novelty potential but is underdeveloped. The ending resolves predictably with little emotional weight. A decent entry for fans of the franchise but offers little that distinguishes it from dozens of similar shonen action films.
