Mr. Money is holding another World Martial Arts Tournament and Mr. Satan invites everyone in the world to join in. Little does he know that Bojack, an ancient villain who has escaped his prison, is competing. Since Goku is currently dead, it is up to Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks to defeat Bojack and his henchman.
Bojack Unbound is a competent but fairly formulaic DBZ film. The plot is essentially a recycled tournament arc with a generic space pirate villain who lacks depth, making it feel like a by-the-numbers entry in the film series. The voice acting and animation are consistent with the TV series standard for its era — serviceable but not exceptional. Cinematography benefits from some well-choreographed fight sequences and a few dynamic action moments that elevate it slightly above the TV show's typical budget. Novelty is low as the premise (tournament invaded by powerful alien villain) closely mirrors other DBZ films, and Bojack himself is one of the less memorable antagonists. The ending delivers a satisfying Gohan power-up moment that fans appreciate, giving it a slight boost, but it follows the predictable formula of the hero awakening latent power to save the day.
