AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

When scientists discover something near Antarctica that appears to be a buried Pyramid, they send a research team out to investigate. Little do they know that they are about to step into a hunting ground where Aliens are grown as sport for the Predator race.

The Quartile Take

AVP delivers on its genre-mashup concept with decent Antarctic atmosphere and some visually interesting pyramid set design, but squanders the crossover potential with a weak script and underdeveloped human characters. The acting is largely forgettable, the plot is thin and rushed, and the ending feels anticlimactic given the franchise pedigree. The novelty of pitting two iconic sci-fi monsters against each other in a shared universe earns it some credit for conception, even if the execution is middling. Cinematography is competent but constrained by a PG-13 rating that dulls the horror edge of both source franchises.
