When a zombie virus pushes Korea into a state of emergency, those trapped on an express train to Busan must fight for their own survival.
Train to Busan elevates the zombie survival genre through exceptional performances — particularly Ma Dong-seok and Gong Yoo — that ground the horror in genuine emotional stakes rarely seen in the genre. Its novelty lies in the brilliant confined-space conceit of a speeding train, which creates relentless tension and forces creative set pieces. The social commentary on class and selfishness adds thematic depth. The plot follows a fairly familiar survival-horror structure with predictable character arcs, and the ending, while emotionally impactful, leans heavily on conventional sacrifice tropes that genre veterans will see coming.
