After her fiancee admits to infidelity while on a business trip in France, a woman attempts to get her lover back and marry him by traveling to Paris despite her crippling fear of flying. On the way she unwittingly smuggles something of value that has a charming crook chasing her across France as she chases after her future husband.
French Kiss is a pleasant but formulaic romantic comedy that hits every expected beat of the genre without much surprise. The plot — woman chases unfaithful fiancé across France, falls for roguish stranger — is entirely predictable, though the French countryside and Paris settings give it some visual charm. Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline have reasonable chemistry, and Kline's performance as the French thief is the film's standout asset, elevating material that would otherwise feel quite thin. Cinematography captures the picturesque locations competently but without distinctive visual personality. The ending resolves exactly as expected with no emotional complexity. Overall a watchable but unremarkable entry in the mid-90s rom-com genre.
