The Quartile Take

A French comedy with a genuinely sharp social premise — a Black couple adopting a white baby — that generates decent comedic and dramatic tension around identity, racism, and family expectations. The acting is competent and warm without being remarkable, and the cinematography is functional at best, typical of mid-budget French comedies with no distinctive visual ambition. The plot handles its central conceit with reasonable wit but doesn't push far enough into its provocative territory, settling for comfortable resolutions. The novelty is real in its premise but the execution stays fairly conventional. The ending wraps things up too neatly, undercutting the sharper edges the film occasionally shows.
