Wendy (2020)

Quartile rating: 7/10 · 2 ratings

A re-imagining of "Peter Pan" from the point of view of Wendy Darling, who finds herself lost on a mysterious island where aging and time have come unglued. She must fight to save her family, her freedom and the joyous spirit of youth.

The Quartile Take

Benh Zeitlin's Peter Pan reimagining is visually stunning — shot on 16mm with raw, naturalistic energy reminiscent of Beasts of the Southern Wild — but the narrative is frustratingly underdeveloped. The plot meanders without satisfying emotional payoff, and the ending feels abrupt and unearned. The child performances are earnest if uneven, and while the film has genuine visual distinctiveness, it doesn't quite carve out a truly singular identity the way Zeitlin's debut did.
