A young man and his three younger siblings are plagued by a sinister presence in the sprawling manor in which they live.
Marrowbone is a competent gothic mystery-thriller with a twist ending that lands reasonably well, though seasoned genre fans will see the narrative misdirection coming fairly early. The sibling dynamics and period atmosphere are handled with care, and the performances — particularly from Anya Taylor-Joy and George MacKay — are solid without being revelatory. Cinematography leans into the decaying manor aesthetic effectively but without distinctive flair. The story draws heavily from familiar haunted-house and psychological-twist templates (think The Others, The Devil's Backbone), offering little that feels genuinely singular in conception or voice, keeping Novelty low. The ending pays off the setup adequately but lacks the emotional or thematic gut-punch that would elevate it above the genre norm.
