Mom and Dad (2018)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

In a suburban community, moms and dads, one after the other, mysteriously feel the irresistible impulse to attack and kill their own offspring.

The Quartile Take

Mom and Dad is a gleefully trashy genre exercise with a genuinely entertaining B-movie premise. Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair commit fully to their roles, with Cage in particular delivering one of his trademark unhinged performances. The film has fun with its satirical suburban anxieties and generational resentments, though the script rarely digs deep into what it's skewering. Cinematography is energetic and stylistically fragmented in a way that suits the chaos. The ending is the weakest link — it simply stops rather than resolves, leaving the film feeling unfinished and deflating much of the built-up tension. Novelty is moderate; the premise is distinctive but the execution stays firmly in genre comfort zones.
