The Quartile Take

A Wrinkle in Time had enormous source material potential but stumbles in translating it to screen. The plot feels rushed and emotionally shallow, failing to develop the philosophical depth of L'Engle's novel. Acting is uneven — DuVane is charming but the child performances are inconsistent and the supporting celestial beings feel campy rather than wondrous. Cinematography offers some visually inventive and colorful moments that partly capture the novel's surreal worlds, though execution is inconsistent. Novelty is limited — despite a woman director and diverse cast (genuinely refreshing choices), the narrative itself follows familiar hero's journey beats and feels derivative of other YA fantasy adaptations. The ending feels rushed and emotionally unearned, failing to deliver the catharsis the story demands.
