Quartile rating: 5.5/10 · 1 rating
A sex therapist goes through puberty after the successful removal of a benign tumor resting against his pituitary gland. He experiences all the changes and effects of puberty over a three-week period.
The Late Bloomer has a genuinely quirky and somewhat unique premise — an adult man experiencing puberty all at once after tumor removal — which gives it novelty value as a sex comedy. However, the execution is uneven: the plot leans heavily on broad, predictable comedy beats and doesn't fully capitalize on its interesting concept. The acting is serviceable but unremarkable, with most performances feeling flat or caricatured. Cinematography is generic and TV-movie-level, with little visual ambition. The ending resolves too neatly and predictably, failing to deliver a satisfying payoff to the film's more interesting thematic possibilities.
