After an accident, Tom wakes from a coma to discover that fragments of his smart phone have been embedded in his head, and worse, that returning to normal teenage life is impossible because he has developed a strange set of super powers.

The Quartile Take

iBoy is a serviceable YA sci-fi revenge thriller with a mildly inventive smartphone-superpower premise set in gritty London council estate surroundings. The plot follows a fairly predictable revenge arc without much surprise or depth, and the ending feels rushed and underwhelming. Acting is competent, with Bill Milner and Maisie Williams doing reasonable work within the material's limitations. Cinematography is functional but unremarkable for the genre. The smartphone-embedded-in-brain concept gives it a slight novelty edge over generic superhero origin stories, but it doesn't fully exploit its premise's potential.
