A geologist races against time to save his estranged wife and two children when a devastating earthquake strikes Oslo, Norway.
The Quake (Skjelvet) is a competent Norwegian disaster sequel to The Wave, following a geologist trying to save his family during an Oslo earthquake. The plot is formulaic disaster-movie fare with estranged-family reconciliation arc that offers little surprise. Acting is serviceable with Kristoffer Joner carrying the film capably. Cinematography delivers solid disaster sequences and uses the urban Oslo setting reasonably well, though it lacks the stunning fjord visuals of its predecessor. Novelty is low — it retreads the same beats as The Wave with a different setting, feeling derivative of both its predecessor and Hollywood disaster films. The ending resolves predictably with the expected survival outcomes and emotional reunification.
