Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience (2016)

Quartile rating: 6.5/10 · 1 rating

A celebration of the universe, displaying the whole of time, from its start to its final collapse. This film examines all that occurred to prepare the world that stands before us now: science and spirit, birth and death, the grand cosmos and the minute life systems of our planet.

The Quartile Take

Terrence Malick's meditative IMAX documentary is visually extraordinary, offering sweeping cosmic imagery that rivals the grandeur of The Tree of Life. The cinematography is genuinely exceptional — breathtaking macro and macro-scale visuals that few films attempt. Its Novelty is high because it occupies a rare space between documentary, art film, and spiritual meditation, with a singular voice unmistakably Malick's. However, the lack of conventional narrative structure makes Plot assessment largely moot, landing low by default, and the absence of traditional acting limits that dimension. The ending, while thematically resonant, feels somewhat diffuse rather than truly transcendent.
