When the pressure to be royal becomes too much for Mal, she returns to the Isle of the Lost where her archenemy Uma, Ursula's daughter, has taken her spot as self-proclaimed queen.
Descendants 2 is a by-the-numbers sequel that recycles the fish-out-of-water and identity-crisis themes of the original with little fresh invention. The plot is predictable and formulaic, following genre beats closely. Acting is serviceable for a Disney Channel TV movie but rarely rises above competent. Cinematography and production design show decent polish for the format, with colorful pirate-themed sets adding some visual energy. Novelty is low as it retreads familiar ground without meaningfully expanding the world or its ideas. The ending resolves conflicts neatly and unsurprisingly, wrapping everything up with little dramatic weight.
