The adventures of two California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers as they make their rounds on the freeways of Los Angeles.
CHiPs (2017) is a crude buddy-cop comedy reboot that leans heavily on raunchy humor and action set pieces rather than story substance. The plot is formulaic police corruption fare with little originality, and the comedic chemistry between Dax Shepard and Michael Peña is hit-or-miss. Cinematography is competent for an action comedy, with decent LA freeway sequences, but nothing visually distinctive. The ending resolves predictably with no real surprises. As a reboot of a TV property, it brings little new to either the buddy-cop or action-comedy genres, feeling largely derivative and by-the-numbers.
