Puss in Boots is a charming and competent spin-off that successfully builds a standalone fairy-tale world around a fan-favorite character. The plot blends western and fairy-tale tropes in a fun if predictable heist structure, and the voice cast (Banderas, Hayek, Galifianakis) delivers with energy. The animation is colorful and fluid but not especially groundbreaking for its era. The film's novelty lies in its distinct tone — a swashbuckling spaghetti-western flair — though it doesn't fully transcend spin-off limitations. The ending, involving Humpty Dumpty's sacrifice and reveal, feels somewhat rushed and emotionally underdeveloped, landing below the rest of the film's entertainment value.
