The Babysitter (2017)

Quartile rating: 6/10 · 1 rating

When Cole stays up past his bedtime, he discovers that his hot babysitter is part of a Satanic cult that will stop at nothing to keep him quiet.

The Quartile Take

The Babysitter is a slick, energetic Netflix horror-comedy that leans into its campy premise with style. The performances, especially Samara Weaving's charismatic turn as Bee, elevate the material above its thin script. The direction by McG brings flashy visual energy with on-screen text and kinetic editing that gives it a distinctive pop aesthetic. However, the plot is paper-thin and largely predictable once the cult reveal happens, running on escalating set pieces rather than story logic. The ending feels rushed and somewhat unsatisfying, failing to capitalize on the emotional groundwork laid between Cole and Bee. Novelty is moderate — the premise mixes coming-of-age awkwardness with splatter comedy in a reasonably fun way, though it doesn't fully transcend its genre roots.
